The hostel was built in 1976, in the memory of Smt. Rani Meyyammai, wife of Philanthropist Padma Bhushan Dr.Rajah Sir M. A Muthiah Chettiar. Smt. Sigapi Ramasamy, fondly addressed as Achi by everyone, played a key role in the development of the hostel right from the days of laying the foundation stone.
